What a full renovation looks like
In Cresswell a tired bungalow was turned into a full family home. It was re-roofed, rendered from top to bottom, the garage was converted, a glazed gable extension went on the back with a vaulted ceiling inside, and the garden was rebuilt with a new lawn and sleeper beds right up to the glass. Taking on the lot at once is what made it read as one house.
Not every renovation is that big. In Washington we turned a garage into a kitchen and rendered the whole house, with a new entrance porch tying the front together. Also in Washington, a home had its internal layout reworked with a new front porch and the flat roof rebuilt as a pitch. In South Shields an accessible adaptation added a ground-floor bedroom and refurbished the kitchen so the house works for the whole family.
How we run it
These are the projects where organisation matters most. The work is sequenced so each trade builds on finished work, not around it: structure and roof first, then services, then plastering, then kitchens, bathrooms, floors and decoration, and the outside finished at the end so you are not left with a smart house in a building site. You get a written programme, regular updates and one number to ring.
Building Control is involved from the start on any structural, roofing, drainage or electrical work that needs it, and signed off as the job progresses.

What does a full home renovation include?
Whatever the house needs, done as one job. On our Cresswell renovation that meant a new roof, render throughout, a garage conversion, a glazed kitchen extension and a new garden. Other renovations are mainly internal: new layouts, kitchens, bathrooms, electrics, plastering and floors. We scope it with you at the survey.
Why do it all at once instead of room by room?
Because everything lines up. A new roof on its own makes old render look tired, and a smart extension against a worn frontage looks bolted on. Doing the work together means one set of scaffold, one programme, less disruption overall, and a finished house that reads as one design rather than a timeline of fixes.
Can we live in the house during a renovation?
Sometimes. It depends on how much of the house is opened up at once and whether you will have a working kitchen and bathroom throughout. We talk it through at the survey and plan the programme around it, so you know in advance which weeks are the disruptive ones.
Do you adapt homes for accessibility?
Yes. In South Shields we built a single-storey bedroom extension and adapted the house so it works day to day for the whole family, with the kitchen refurbished at the same time. Adaptations are planned around the person living there, not a standard layout.
Who do I deal with during the job?
One person. You get a written programme, regular updates and one number to ring, and the same team runs the job from the first survey to the final sign-off. Building Control is involved from the start wherever the work needs it.
